You frantically look for a free parking space, weaving through narrow streets, you are already half an hour late and then you see a car parked almost diagonally, taking up two parking spaces. The pressure starts to build, and you start to feel an irresistible hatred for its rearview mirrors and wipers. You continue looking for a free space, at the same time wondering why some drivers do this and what their “psychological profile” is?

Why do some drivers take up two parking spaces?
Some believe that this is classic arrogance, others think that the problem lies in their lack of spatial orientation, i.e. that they do not know how to park and drive in general, while still others say - a psychological disorder. What do you think? Is it:
Arrogant drivers? "Narcissists" who have no understanding of other people's needs, nor do they care that their actions cause problems for others?
Lack of spatial orientation? There are drivers who simply do not know how to park a car. They are unable to do this regardless of the type of parking, so it is very easy for them to accidentally drive into the next parking space. They should not be blamed - the person who gave them their driver's license should be blamed
A general lack of culture? Is it people who are not even aware of how their actions affect others, regardless of whether it is traffic or any other aspect of life?
Or is it sometimes simply a matter of haste, so drivers "crawl" into the parking lot, not looking where they are parked and running out to solve some "burning problem".
I don't want other people to slam their car doors on me!
Believe it or not, some drivers even have this excuse. In their opinion, this is a completely legitimate reason, because, for example, they have already scratched and dented their brand new car and now they no longer intend to take any risks: "Let whoever wants to be angry, when other people are so normal that they don't slam their car doors on me and I will park normally".
Who should you report a car that has taken up two parking spaces to?
If it is a parking lot that is not paid for, call the municipal police in your city. They should go out and write a ticket.
In the case of paid parking, first call the relevant Parking Service and ask them to contact the police (traffic or municipal), or you can call the municipal police yourself.
The fine for parking in two parking spaces is 3,000 dinars.
Often, these drivers are not at fault either!
In some cases, a “chain reaction” can occur, with one car parking in two spaces, and then all the others are practically forced to do the same. Imagine an empty parking lot and there is a tree in the parking lot. The first car parks too far from the tree, e.g. so that the passenger does not hit the tree with their door, and so the car moves into the space of the other parking space.
The next car arrives, parks next to it, and is automatically unable to respect the marked parking lines. The same goes for the next one that will park next to it.
Regardless of whether the others who arrive park further away from the first ones and park correctly in the space marked with lines on the asphalt or continue to park incorrectly next to the first ones, in the end one parking space will remain unused.
Solution?
Higher fines. If someone is so arrogant as to take up two parking spaces, then let them pay. Also, the municipal and traffic police should be more prompt in punishing.
And in the event that someone does not know how to park and therefore takes up two parking spaces, they should be sent to a special test of their ability to drive a motor vehicle, with a special emphasis on parking. If they fail this test, their driver's license will be revoked.
Do you think this is too harsh, if not insanely harsh, solution? Don't worry, there is little chance that anything similar will ever come to fruition.
Send us pictures of such drivers and report them
In addition to the huge lack of parking spaces, which directly contributes to the worsening of traffic jams (e.g. parking on the street or sidewalk instead of in that "stolen" parking space), there should be no mercy for those who are so arrogant as to take up two spaces.
Call the municipal police and/or parking service. Report them, and if you have time, wait to see if and after how long the authorities will react.
Also - take pictures of them and send us the pictures so that we can publish them on our Facebook page. Maybe we can influence the authorities to take this problem much more seriously.
