Security Deposit and Excess: Everything You Need to Know About Renting a Car in Montenegro

If you are renting a car for the first time, some of the rules may seem vague and confusing. At Adriatic rent a car, we want your car rental experience to be as positive as possible and are here to explain any terms you may have questions about.

In this article, you will learn the main differences between a security deposit and a "excess", why a security deposit is charged, how and when it will be returned, and what to do in the event of an accident.

What is the difference between a security deposit and a deductible?

A security deposit must be paid upon receipt of the car. It can be used to cover possible damage to the car during the rental period. When choosing a Kasko insurance package, there will be a deductible - this is the amount of the client's liability to the company for damage and damage to the car during the rental period.

What is the deposit amount?

The deposit amount varies depending on the type of car and the selected package. If you choose the economy and mid-range car package, the deposit (and therefore the franchise) is 100€ (for economy models) to 200€ (for luxury models and minibuses).

When and how will I get my money back?

Adriatic rent a car takes the deposit from your bank card and returns it 10 working days after the rental agreement is closed, if the terms of the agreement have not been violated and the car has been returned in good condition.

If the deposit is paid in cash, it is returned immediately upon returning the car.

What happens to my deposit if the car is damaged?

If you have chosen OSAGO insurance, the damage will be assessed according to the fixed price list (of the car service). If you have chosen Casco insurance, you are fully insured in case of any external damage to the car, and your participation is measured by the amount of the franchise. Exclusion of damage to tires, wheels, windshield, glass and headlights.

Why do I need to leave a deposit?

There are some things that are not covered by insurance. These include exceeding the mileage limit, lack of fuel, lost keys, damage to the interior and negligent use of the car.

What should I do if I have a major accident?

In case of a major accident, the client is obliged to provide a completed police report and an accident report to the rental office within 48 hours of the incident, after which our team will investigate the case and you will be personally informed.
