So, we assume that you have settled in Budva or its environs, waking up in the morning in a good mood and drinking a fragrant cup of coffee, we decide to go to meet something new and interesting, three beautiful places are waiting for us ahead: fantastic Sveti Stefan, cozy Petrovac and the most beautiful Lake Skadar.
The easiest route can be laid along the main highway E80, this route goes along the entire Montenegrin coast and is called the Adriatic Road, you are guaranteed amazing views, serpentines and local historical sights.
Places worth visiting on the way to Lake Skadar:
Sveti Stefan (Sveti Stefan 42.256576, 18.892784) is located 9 km southeast of Budva on the E80 highway. For many decades, Sveti Stefan has been not only a fashionable resort, but also one of the main symbols of Montenegro.
Be sure to visit this place, not only to admire the observation deck (Sveti Stefan observation deck (42.277132, 18.834550)) at the top of the highway (where Montenegrin souvenirs are also sold and great photos are taken), but also be sure to follow the sign down to the shore. We recommend leaving your car in official parking lots, because tow trucks are very active in Montenegro during the season.
Petrovac is located 19 kilometers from Budva on the E80 highway and is a resort town for family and children's recreation in Montenegro.
The unique microclimate of Petrovac is mild and very beneficial for people (especially for asthmatics and allergy sufferers) due to the proximity of dense pine forests, olive groves and the sea.
Opposite the central beach, about one km away, there are two rocky islands, the island of Katic and the island of St. Nedelja, on one of which there is a monastery.
The Castello church, which is located to the right of the central beach, is also of historical interest. We also recommend visiting the Lucica beach, which is a 15-minute walk from the central beach.
On the way to our main goal, there will be another interesting place, which is 3-4 km from Petrovac, this is the Rezevici monastery, built in the 14th century.
After passing the village of Canj and the Haj-Nehaj tunnel, you will see a turn to Podgorica and drive through Sozina.
This tunnel is the largest in Montenegro, its length is more than 4 kilometers, the passage through the tunnel is paid and is 2.5 Euros for a car.
And now you are already close to the lake, but do not rush and look into the small but homely town of Virpazar, if you plan to fish on the lake, then in this town you can rent a boat. This is an authentic fishing village, the Virpazar river, on which the settlement stood, twisted in this place into a whirlpool (
The convenient location of this city at the intersection of important roads contributed to the development of trade. In the 19th century, Vir became a lively trading center, where hundreds of people came to sell or exchange their goods.
Most likely, this is why the townspeople later began to call it Virpazar (and here it is Skadar Lake (national park) - located just 50 kilometers from Budva, this is the greatest repository of natural and historical wealth of Montenegro.
Its area is 370-550 sq. km., which makes this reservoir the largest source of fresh water in Eastern Europe. Skadar Lake is surrounded by hills, mountains, many islands and caves.
A huge variety of birds (more than 260 species!) and fish species (such as silver carp, eel, catfish, white amur, carp, etc.) will amaze the imagination of anyone who visits this water park.
Freely available to tourists are local restaurants with delicious fish, small beaches, motor and sailing pleasure boats, and of course fishing!
Here is one of the routes for exploring Montenegro, which is available to all vacationers, both young romantic natures, as well as established couples with children and not only, by the way, if you move further along the highway, you can get to the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica, where you can go shopping both in large malls (TC Delta City (42.437392, 19.235757)), and in separate shops of such famous brands as Benetton, Zara, M&S, Max Mara, Armani, Levi’s, Geox, Cavalli, Guess, Tommy Hilfiger and others.
And of course, walk along the Millennium Bridge, which was built in 2005, and the highest point of the bridge is at a height of 57 m.
Have a nice and easy trip!
