1. Saving time
10 reasons to rent a car in Montenegro.
1. Saving time
With a car, you don't have to go to the bus stop, buy tickets, wait for departure, put up with bus delays, make transfers, regularly stop along the way to pick up or drop off passengers and spend a few minutes waiting at each bus station. If the bus only takes you to the bus station, then with a car you can not only get to the city, but also move around it and instead of walking a long time, get to the attraction of interest in five minutes. All this saves a lot of time, which a tourist never has much of.
2. Freedom
Traveling independently by car, and not by public transport or with an organized excursion, you have much more freedom. You don't depend on anyone and can change your plan at any time because the weather has gotten worse or, on the contrary, has improved, or you liked that nice town by the sea, you need to see what it has, or the place turned out to be less interesting than you expected, and so on. I'm not even talking about the fact that when you travel by car, no one will forbid you to stop at least every few meters to take a photo of the landscape you like, drink coffee in a nice cafe with a terrace on the seashore, or just look at all sorts of interesting things.
3. The opportunity to see more
The third point logically follows from the first two. You can see more, implement a more intense program, since you are freer to move and have more time. In general, for me, a car is first and foremost a tool that allows you to see the maximum in a short time. Having a personal vehicle allows you to create interesting routes with visits to several settlements or attractions (say, a one-day tour of fortresses), which, unfortunately, are not possible by public transport. Traveling by car, you can really see many times more.
4. A chance to make your vacation truly unique
Montenegro has very beautiful and interesting, but not very accessible places. Getting to them by bus is either difficult or completely impossible. Not everyone likes long walks, especially in the heat. A car will allow you to see attractions that other visitors miss, and bring back photos and impressions from your vacation that are different from those of the vast majority of tourists. For example, you can visit the same Austro-Hungarian fortresses (Goraždu near Kotor, Kosmac above Budva, Vrmac on the peninsula of the same name, the fortresses of Luštica) or observation platforms with stunning views (Ilin Hill near Herceg Novi), go to authentic villages (Žlijebi above Herceg Novi, Verhnija Lastva in Tivat opština, Poseljani and Godinje on Lake Skadar) and get to know non-tourist Montenegro.
5. Comfort
You travel with great comfort. You regulate the temperature in the cabin yourself. You have the opportunity to move around the city not on foot, but quickly and comfortably by car, so you get much less tired and do not feel like a squeezed lemon at the end of the day. And for travelers with small children, a car is an indispensable friend and helper. In it, you can feed the child, put him to sleep, change his clothes or stop at any time for all this.
6. Easy to register a car for rent
In Montenegro, the procedure for registering a car for rent is extremely simple. You don’t even need an international driver’s license, a regular (national) driver’s license is enough.
For many, another advantage is that most Montenegrin rental companies prefer to take a deposit in cash rather than write it off from a card, and, as a rule, the deposit amount is not too large. In some cases, they don’t even ask for a deposit.
In addition, if you choose our, the entire rental process will become very easy: the site’s search engine will sort offers from many Montenegrin rental companies by price, you can book the option you like in just a couple of minutes (and you will not have to pay the entire amount, but only a small part of it), you will not encounter hidden payments and commissions, and you will not hear the traditional excuses when receiving the car about why you were not delivered the car you ordered, but another one, since you will pick up exactly the car you booked on the site. In addition, the company is famous for its friendly and always ready to consult (and not only on rental issues) Russian-speaking customer support.
7. Saving money
Not always and not for everyone, but sometimes it is cheaper to travel by car. Especially if you are not traveling as a couple, but as a group of three or four over long distances or using complex routes.
For example: for 4 adults (or adults with children over 9 years old), a bus ride from Herceg Novi to Bar will cost about €76 (€8.5 travel to Bar + €9.5 return ticket + €1 fee for purchasing a ballet on the bus).
Bar station = 19 €, multiply by 4 - comes out to 76 €), and by car this pleasure will cost about 53 € (30 € car rental + 14 € gasoline + 9 € ferry) if you use the Kamenari-Lepetane ferry and about 47 € provided that the route is laid through Kotor and the Vrmac tunnel. In the off-season, when cars are offered at lower prices, you can spend even less on the road - 27-35 €, given that the price of bus tickets will remain the same. The benefit is obvious.
8. No restrictions on the choice of housing
If you plan to travel on foot and public transport throughout your vacation, the selection of apartments / houses becomes significantly smaller. For the most comfortable vacation, you have to look for housing located close to the sea, or to the city center / bus station. Namely, in these areas, good options at a low cost are taken apart very early. As a result, you most likely either overpay or agree to a cheaper offer, and then put up with some of the resulting inconveniences.
When you know for sure that you will take a car for the entire stay in Montenegro, or at least most of it, it becomes possible to consider housing in more remote areas, quiet and cheap.
9. Availability of a trunk
If you have a car, you can take much more with you, since you will not necessarily carry these things on yourself. For photographers, this can be a large tripod, reflector, flashes and a couple of extra lenses; for beachgoers, sun umbrellas, inflatable mattresses, boats, rings, a cooler bag; for parents with a small child - a stroller, a baby food warmer, a change of clothes, favorite toys, hygiene products.
Plus, you can always safely buy something for souvenirs and gifts on the road. When you travel by public transport, it is not very convenient to buy something bulky, fragile or more or less heavy, since then you have to carry it the rest of the way. If you have a car, then you need to drag everything to the parking lot at most.
10. The ability to choose the best places to relax
Montenegro has different beaches: concrete, large and small pebbles, less often - sandy. And sometimes before going down to the sea there are steep rocky shores. Without a vehicle, you usually have to be content with what is nearby. With a car, it will be very easy to find a beach of exactly the type you like. Or just find a deserted place with clean turquoise sea water.
And also, having a car, you can add to your vacation plan picnics in beautiful locations with panoramic views, trips to sunsets to observation decks or dinners in small nice restaurants located on the outskirts and in the suburbs.
