TIVAT CUSTOMS. FREQUENT DECEPTION OF TOURISTS.

Very often, Tivat customs officers require you to declare or pay a duty on new personal items if their value exceeds 150 euros. Or they push you to pay some amount in cash into their pocket. That they will allegedly pay the duty for you themselves :)

Tivat Customs

Questions often arise about the disrespectful attitude of the Tivat airport customs officers towards our compatriots. There are many rumors/misinterpretations and other discussions on this matter. In order to dot all the i's and cross all the t's, let's turn to the official website of the Montenegrin Customs

(http://www.upravacarina.gov.me/…/OBAVJEsTENJE-ZA-PUTNIKE.ht…), section of information for "travelers". Download/print and have this memo with you, it explains everything that is allowed and what is not. Print both versions, in Russian and Montenegrin.

Follow these rules and you will be happy and respected by the Tivat airport customs officers.

It is NOT true that you can import items for personal use worth up to 150 euros without duty. It is clearly stated there - if you leave by car, this amount is 300 euros, if by air, then items intended for personal use worth up to 430 euros are not subject to duty.

Customs officers in Tivat are disingenuous, citing a figure of up to 150 euros, this figure exists, but it applies to children under 15 years of age, all this is indicated in the instructions. Thus, let's summarize based on the instructions from the official website of the Montenegrin customs - every adult citizen of Russia, flying to Montenegro, can import duty-free items for personal use worth up to 430 euros, for a child under 15 years old up to 150 euros.

Have a printed document with you, if the item is new, have a document confirming the cost within the above limits, if the item is used, estimate it at 1 euro (you have the right). If the customs officer does not bother to follow this information, politely tell him that you are about to call +382 20 442 007, this is the Department of Internal Control, this usually sobers up the customs officer and he will let you go "in peace".

Follow the customs rules and you will not get into unpleasant situations.
